Centurini Position

The Centurini Position is an end game tactic where both sides have a King and a bishop on the same color square and one side has a pawn that they are trying to promote. A bishop by itself can’t checkmate the opponent’s King so the only hope for one side to win is if the pawn is promoted. The side without the pawn is only trying to capture the pawn. If they can, then the game is drawn. They can’t win the game so getting a draw is considered success for them.

With correct maneuvering, the side with the pawn and bishop are able to win the game. But this end game tactic can be tricky and it’s very easy to lose the pawn and the victory.
