Pawn endgames are the most common endgames in all of chess. Many players, especially at the lower levels, will trade off material until it’s down to a king and a pawn. This can many times end in a draw, but an unskilled player can also lose games that they shouldn’t.

Having a good understanding of pawn end games will help you think ahead before you reach a specific position. You may decide that it makes sense to trade off material or you may realize that your opponent has the upper hand.

This is the foundation for all other end game tactics.
